As the League is seeking to achieve Charter Standard by the end of the current playing season the Management Committee may need to expand in order to deal with any additional work which this may entail. Would anyone interested in supporting the League by joining the Committee please contact Alan or Liz Thrift to discuss the level of commitment which would be required.
BECAUSE OF THE RECENT ROUND OF CANCELLATIONS A NUMBER OF FIXTURES WILL HAVE TO BE SLOTTED IN AS BEST AS CAN BE ARRANGED. PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL HAVE TO PUBLISH SOME RE-ARRANGED GAMES WITH LESS THAN TWO WEEKS NOTICE IN ORDER TO GET THEM PLAYED BEFORE THE END OF THE SEASON. YOU SHOULD PLEASE THEREFORE KEEP CHECKING FOR CHANGES.
League Cup - Semi Finals - In a quite amazing Cup tie Premier Division side Vorranova took on The Knights from Division 1 and within five minutes found themselves a goal down when Knights equivalent of Rory Delap launched a long throw into Nova`s box which their `keeper could only help into the net. Twelve minutes later Guy Saunders made it two and within another five minutes Dave Muir had made it three. At this point `Nova shook themselves out of their lethargy and Knights had their keeper to thank for some fine saves before John Watson reduced the arrears. However, Steve Bennett restored Knights three goal cushion just before the break. After th restart `Nova hit back within two minutes when Robin Reeve scored and within three minutes Knights had conceded a hotly disputed penalty which was clinically finished by Richard Manning. Knights tried desperately to rally themselves and again had their keeper to thank for some excellent saves to keep them ahead. Just when they thought they had won up popped John Watson to level the tie with the last kick of the game. In the first period of extra time Rhys Earl put `Nova in front for the first time in the match and John Watson completed his hat trick in the second period. In the other tie Coyles took on Wickbeech attempting to reach their second final in two weeks. In the first half the tie was evenly contested without either keeper being seriously tested. However, three minutes before the break Sener Suavi picked up the ball on the edge of Coyles area cut in and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. Five minutes into the second half and Suavi did it again after chasing a long through ball and knicking it past Coyles keeper just as he was about to gather it to extend their lead despite Coyles protests. Shortly after Suavi missed the chance to complete his hat trick when he lobbed the defence but the ball curled just wide of the post. Coyles then settled themselves and mounted some determined attacks of their own before substitute Craig George sealed the game for Wickbeech ten minutes from time. Coyles kept going and two minutes from time Ross Maguire got the reward their efforts deserved.
Premier Division - Bellhouse Airtech hosted Chelmer Wanderers and with only ten men soon found themselves trailing to a brace by Matt Piggins and one from Si Green. However, Dan Cann then turned the game on its head with a hat trick for the understrength home side. Woodham Athletic took on last season`s bogey team Stelphic United and went into a two goal lead through Stuart Hatcher and Kieron Osborn. Daniel Harrendence then scored his first goal in seven seasons for the visitors.
Division 1 - In a lively game Crescendo Athletic entertained leaders Bird United. Ten minutes in Sam Nicel opened the scoring for the visitors with a terrific thirty yarder. Tristan Smith then failed to beat Bird`s keeper from the penalty spot, who then went on to earn his team`s vote for Man of the Match for his alround performance.
Division 2 - Runaway leaders Signet United went to second placed Admirals Park where the visitors` Alex Smith scored the winner after the two sides exchanged goals through Tyrone Avraamides and Iain Cameron. Park`s defeat enabled Team Al Aqsa to leapfrog them into second place when they ran out comfortable winners over City Supporters. Sam Mollison helped himself to a hat trick and further goals came from Dan Sambrook, Neil Webster and Dan Lister. David Fish grabbed a late consolation for the home side.Wilvale Rangers got back to winning ways against a depleted Anchor side who struggled without their suspended keeper and were further reduced to ten through injury. Andrew Crowl, Andrew Brownlie and Jon Fewell were on target for Rangers.
