As the League is seeking to achieve Charter Standard by the end of the current playing season the Management Committee may need to expand in order to deal with any additional work which this may entail. Would anyone interested in supporting the League by joining the Committee please contact Alan or Liz Thrift to discuss the level of commitment which would be required.
BECAUSE OF THE RECENT ROUND OF CANCELLATIONS A NUMBER OF FIXTURES WILL HAVE TO BE SLOTTED IN AS BEST AS CAN BE ARRANGED. PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL HAVE TO PUBLISH SOME RE-ARRANGED GAMES WITH LESS THAN TWO WEEKS NOTICE IN ORDER TO GET THEM PLAYED BEFORE THE END OF THE SEASON. YOU SHOULD PLEASE THEREFORE KEEP CHECKING FOR CHANGES.
Please note that the semi-finals of the League Cup will be played on 14th March 2010.
In view of the current weather conditions may I suggest that all teams keep in contact with Park groundsmen and each other as to the likelihood of pitches being fit for play and if in doubt see if game can be switched to opponents ground if that is playable.
Essex Junior Cup - Semi Final - Wickbeech entertained Dengie United of the Chelmsford Invitation League and soon ran up a two goal lead through Sena Swava and Craig George. Shortly before half time Swava made it three with a superbly executed bicycle kick. The Wickford team dominated most of the second half and Craig George added two more goals to complete his hat trick.
Premier Division - In a classic game of two halves Vorranova took advantage of the windy conditions at Melbourne Park against Chelmer Wanderers and ran in three goals courtesy of Lee Watson, John Watson and Craig Wilson. In the second half Wanderers pressed forward to retrieve the situation but could only manage strikes from Steve Lunn and a collectors item from Paul Green. F.C. Amarillo hosted Stelphic United and the visitors felt aggrieved when a Barry Gibson free kick was disallowed before the Yellows scored twice through Sam Mears and Keith Seeman.
Division 1 - There were several intriguing games in this Division and leaders Bird United hoped to extend their lead at the top when they hosted third placed Banjax. However, a John Barnes penalty secured the points for the visitors and moved them level on points but into second place on goal difference. Fourth placed Vision then entertained second placed Ingatestone Rovers and the points were shared. Frank Sarsa got both Rovers goals whilst top marksman Stuart Barker and George Lay were on target for the Billericay team. In a bottom of the table clash The Knights finally found the form that seemed to have deserted them so far this season against Sauls Park. In a lively start Knights struck the post and Park the crossbar in the first five minutes. Knights opened the scoring after 10 minutes but Park equalised from the penalty spot midway through the half. Two goals in in the opening five minutes of the second half totally demoralised Park and a collapse followed with goals at regular intervals. Park managed a further consolation in the last few minutes. Park`s goals both came from leading scorer and goalkeeper Andrew Hodgkiss whilst Guy Saunders with a brace and Steven Bennett`s hat trick did most of the damage for Knights.
Division 2 - Signet United maintained their 100% league record against Rivermead. United went ahead in the first half but Matt Webster equalised. Rivermead hung on doggedly and at 2-1 down, late on, had a chance to equalise but saw the chance go begging. United then sealed the points with a third. Tommy Wolfe with a brace and Alex Smith were the United marksmen. Uplands Rangers were unable to repeat their recent improved form against City Supporters and Scott Hance put City ahead with two fine strikes. Mark Proud then added a third before the interval. Chris Evans fired home from the penalty spot and Ben Harris added a fifth to complete the scoring.
